The Alamosa Mean Moose will venture away from home to challenge the Pagosa Springs Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Alamosa is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Salida: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mean Moose blew the Spartans out of the water with a 50-13 final score. The Mean Moose pushed the score to 43-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Spartans had no chance of recovering from.
Alamosa didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Alex Vialpando and Nelson Arambula. Vialpando got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Pagosa Springs was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Montezuma-Cortez 42-10. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-3.
Alamosa better keep an eye on Colton Lucero. He was instrumental in Pagosa Springs' win, rushing for 207 yards and four scores while picking up 12.9 yards per carry. They are undefeated when Lucero posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise. Pagosa Springs also got a significant boost from Alex Pacheco, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.
Pagosa Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 339 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 183 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Pagosa Springs, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lucero, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Alamosa's record is now 6-2. As for Pagosa Springs, their record now sits at 5-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Alamosa has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 202.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pagosa Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 265.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Alamosa didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Pagosa Springs in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 14-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mean Moose since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
