Thornton Academy is a perfect 9-0 against Noble since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Trojans will host the Knights at 10:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Thornton Academy 1.6, Noble 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Thursday, Thornton Academy beat Bonny Eagle 7-2. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Scots: they've now won four in a row.
Ben Indorf looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
On the hitting side, Django Tachibana was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jacob Fish, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Noble hadn't done well against Cheverus recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Knights had just enough and edged out the Stags 3-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Knights as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Carl Gregoire was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. Gregoire was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That hit was his first of the season.
Gregoire wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tanner Filiponne, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Filiponne has brought in this season.
Thornton Academy pushed their record up to 4-0-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Noble, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Noble's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Thornton Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. It's a different story for Noble, though, as they've only averaged .163. Will they be able to contain Thornton Academy's hitters?
Thornton Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Noble in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 7-4. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
