The O'Connor Eagles will head out to take on the Basha Bears at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. O'Connor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
O'Connor is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Boulder Creek, who was ranked 12th at the time (O'Connor was ranked 13th). The Eagles fell 14-10 to the Jaguars on Tuesday. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
O'Connor saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abigail Yanez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another was Sydnee Williams, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Basha had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They never let the Pumas get on the board and left with a 5-0 win.
Basha also got a great performance from Kylee Duffy as she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Duffy has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bella Cadena was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Makaila Quinney was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Basha hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.
O'Connor's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Basha, their record now sits at 8-2-2.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. O'Connor hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. However, it's not like Basha struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
O'Connor beat Basha 9-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
