The Pathways Eagles typically have all the answers at home, but on Tuesday the Downey Christian Patriots proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Eagles 73-47. With Downey Christian ahead 39-16 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Downey Christian was led to victory by Patrick Olajuwon and Maylon Marte. Olajuwon dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 18 rebounds, and ten blocks, while Marte scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. Olajuwon has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 21 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gian Vera, who scored 18 points.
Pathways lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Carlos Escalera, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Branden Southall, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Downey Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. As for Pathways, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-5.
Downey Christian will head out on the road to face off against Varsity Opponent at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pathways, they will be playing at home against Nazaret Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Pathways focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
