The Akron Tigers entered their tilt with the Medina Mustangs with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Akron came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 55-48 on Wednesday. Given Akron's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Mustangs are ranked 602nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jerrell Nealy, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 35.4% of Medina's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Preston Woodworth was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Akron's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2. As for Medina, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Akron will challenge the Fighting Irish at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Medina will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd.
