The Lugoff-Elgin Demons will head out on the road to challenge the Ridge View Blazers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lugoff-Elgin has struggled recently with 15 defeats in a row, while Ridge View will arrive with three straight wins.
Lugoff-Elgin fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Irmo on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Yellowjackets by a score of 66-64. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Lugoff-Elgin got a solid performance out of Jillian Rush, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rush has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kendra Wilson, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Lugoff-Elgin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 32 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irmo only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ridge View faced A.C. Flora in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ridge View narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past A.C. Flora 45-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Ridge View has posted yet this season.
Lugoff-Elgin dropped their record down to 3-17 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Ridge View, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season.
Lugoff-Elgin suffered a grim 67-41 defeat to Ridge View in their previous matchup on January 5th. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Lugoff-Elgin was down 39-16.
