Softball Recap: Albuquerque Finds Home Field Redemption Against West Mesa

There's no place like home for Albuquerque, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the West Mesa Mustangs with a sharp 15-5 victory on Friday. Considering the Bulldogs have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Elyssa Russell was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luna Diaz, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Albuquerque lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive matchups.

Albuquerque's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for West Mesa, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Albuquerque will challenge Rio Grande at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Ravens have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for West Mesa, they will head out on the road to square off against Los Lunas at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
