Denmark-Olar and Hunter-Kinard-Tyler are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Denmark-Olar Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Denmark-Olar knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Hunter-Kinard-Tyler likes a good challenge.
Denmark-Olar put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 73-44 victory over Blackville-Hilda. Given Denmark-Olar's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Blackville-Hilda is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Denmark-Olar's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Tykeen Ross, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds, and Terrance Hinton, who scored 22 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Ross is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Bovain, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Ridge Spring-Monetta on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 44-39 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Hunter-Kinard-Tyler.
Denmark-Olar's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Denmark-Olar beat Hunter-Kinard-Tyler 44-32 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Denmark-Olar since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
