King is 0-8 against Calallen since March of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The King Brahmas will venture away from home to take on the Calallen Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Calallen will be up against a hot King team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. King's pitcher stepped up to hand West Oso an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Brahmas' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
King got a big performance out of Addison Beltran, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Meagan Barcena was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
King was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Calallen waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 10-0 victory. Calallen's win was all the more impressive since the Mustangs were averaging only 3.57 runs allowed on the season.
Jordyn Thibodeaux was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Braelyn Bailey was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 4-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brookelynn Meador, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.
Calallen pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for King, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. King hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Calallen struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
King might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from Calallen in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can King avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
