Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Defiance). Everything went their way against the Tinora Rams on Monday as they made off with a 26-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Addison Miller made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Ayvah Cullen was incredible, firing off two home runs, five runs, and six RBI while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Gutierrez, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Defiance kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tinora only managed six hits.
Defiance has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tinora, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-12.
Looking ahead, Defiance will challenge Lima Senior at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tinora, they will face off against Hicksville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
