The Niwot Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 67-34 loss at the hands of Longmont. While losing is never fun, Niwot can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 206th, while Longmont is ranked 86th).
Despite the loss, Niwot still got an impressive performance from Jackson Carano, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brighton Langenegger, who scored eight points.
Niwot struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Longmont found their leader in underclassman Dominic Lombrano, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lombrano has scored at least 25% of Longmont's points. Another player making a difference was Suge Valles, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Niwot's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-5. As for Longmont, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Niwot will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Thompson Valley at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. As for Longmont, they will head out on the road to face off against Littleton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Littleton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 last Friday.
