The Wesley Chapel Wildcats will square off against the Fivay Falcons at TBD on Thursday. One thing working in Wesley Chapel's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
While it was all tied up 37-37 at halftime, Wesley Chapel was not quite Wiregrass Ranch's equal in the second half on Friday. The contest between them and the Bulls wasn't particularly close, with the Wildcats falling 87-71. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (55), Wesley Chapel still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Wesley Chapel got a solid performance out of Ethan Hicks, who scored 23 points along with seven steals. Sian Morris was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Fivay had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They snuck past the Buccaneers with a 53-49 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Fivay.
Fivay found their leader in underclassman Antwan Brown, who scored 23 points along with six assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Dominick Walsh, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Wesley Chapel's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-5. As for Fivay, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Wesley Chapel have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 45.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Fivay struggles in that department as they've made 45.7% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Wesley Chapel against Fivay when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 90-51 win. With Wesley Chapel ahead 52-25 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
