Loyd Star has gone a perfect 10-0 against West Lincoln recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Hornets will face off against the Bears at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Loyd Star has five straight victories, West Lincoln has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Loyd Star barely beat Lawrence County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hornets put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 11-1 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Carson Cunningham spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.

At the plate, Jordyn Kees and Casen Easterling did most of the damage at the plate: Kees scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Easterling scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Kees is becoming a predictor of Loyd Star's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Eli Thornton, who scored two runs and stole a base.
Meanwhile, West Lincoln lost 13-3 to Centreville Academy on Saturday.
West Lincoln saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fisher Holcomb, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Holcomb also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
West Lincoln's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Loyd Star, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Loyd Star has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like West Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Loyd Star's way against West Lincoln when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Loyd Star made off with a 19-0 win. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
