Southwest recap September 24, 2013
Joel Barlow's Harry Wilson recorded the longest rushing play in Southwest this season in his game against New Milford last week. Wilson's team beat the Green Wave as he sprinted for 94 yards on the play and finished with 161 in all.
Bunnell was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 13th to ninth in the league. The Bulldogs vanquished Immaculate 48-20 earlier in the week.
Bobby Drysdale was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 251 yards on 12 carries as Brookfield defeated Stratford. Austin Reich also contributed to the rushing game with 83 yards on the ground.
Michael McCourt threw for 183 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 6-13 with 2 interceptions.
Drysdale was a beast in the backfield as the Bobcats bested Pomperaug.
Lummis was the best receiver in Southwest this week as the Trojans topped the Red Devils. Lummis tallied 7 receptions for 115 yards.
Andrew Tarantino was a passing and rushing force as Newtown defeated Bethel. He completed 16 passes for 256 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 14 yards. Tarantino's key target this week was Julian Dunn, who caught 2 passes for 71 yards.
McCourt put up the best numbers through the air as New Fairfield bested Oxford.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Nighthawks' Tarantino and Dunn have proven to be a lethal combination. Tarantino has thrown for 485 yards this season, while Dunn, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 6 catches for 194 yards. Drysdale from Brookfield leads the league in rushing with 388 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Rich Angarano's team takes on Newtown. The Bobcats are currently in fifth, while Steven George's team is in first.
Masuk led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on Notre Dame Catholic.
