The South Grand Prairie Warriors came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Haltom by a score of 56-49. Given South Grand Prairie's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Haltom is ranked 127th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Haltom lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kuol Atak, who scored 19 points along with five blocks and three steals. That was a full 38.8% of Haltom's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Baron Smith jr was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.
South Grand Prairie pushed their record up to 28-6 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Haltom, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Grand Prairie will take on Lamar at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Grand Prairie knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Lamar likes a good challenge. As for Haltom, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Grand Prairie at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Haltom focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
