The Southern Nash Firebirds will play host again and welcome the Croatan Cougars, where Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Southern Nash is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Croatan in North Carolina (Southern Nash is ranked 45th, while Croatan is ranked 268th).
Southern Nash stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Franklinton at home to the tune of 45-0.
It was another big night for Tylik Mitchell, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Luke Faulkner, who rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Croatan came up short against West Carteret on Friday and fell 30-19.
Croatan's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Coleman Davis, who rushed for 156 yards while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and Max Cardona who picked up 69 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Davis was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards.
Southern Nash's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.7 points per game. As for Croatan, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Southern Nash has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 322.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Croatan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 187 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
