The Enloe Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Broughton Capitals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Enloe is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
Enloe saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 62-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of South View. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while the Tigers are ranked 175th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Preston Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daylen Chamblee, who posted seven points along with five assists and three steals.
Even though they lost, Enloe was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Broughton suffered their closest loss since January 23, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Sanderson by a score of 56-53. The Capitals haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Like Enloe, Broughton lost despite seeing results from several players. Hudson Fitzgerald led the charge by putting up 14 points. Storm Taylor was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points.
Enloe's record now sits at 2-12. As for Broughton, their record now sits at 10-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Enloe has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Broughton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Enloe didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Broughton when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 63-59 win. Does Enloe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Broughton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
