The Newton-Conover Red Devils will venture away from home to challenge the West Iredell Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton-Conover's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so West Iredell's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Newton-Conover barely beat Bunker Hill the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Bears on Wednesday. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Kobe Windsor was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eric Jones, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those RBI were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Zevion Williams, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Newton-Conover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, West Iredell came up short against Hickory on Thursday and fell 7-2. The Warriors have struggled against the Red Tornadoes recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Austin Arrowood was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Love, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
West Iredell's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Newton-Conover, their record now sits at 5-2.
Everything went Newton-Conover's way against West Iredell in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, as Newton-Conover made off with a 15-2 win. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
