The Esperanza Aztecs will be taking part in a tournament against the Cajon Cowboys at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Esperanza was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Reno 5-4.
River Sanchez tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Adam Tway, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bishop Thomas, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Esperanza always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Cajon came tearing into Saturday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Chargers. The three-run effort marked the Cowboys' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Marcus McQueen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Riley Nguyen looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Jaden Carpenter was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Cajon's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Esperanza, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
