Even though the Wesson Cobras scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, the South Pike Eagles still came out on top. South Pike put the hurt on the Cobras with a sharp 77-56 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as South Pike also won the last time the pair played back in January.
South Pike was led to victory by Jovon Leavy and Lavell Thompson. Leavy almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine rebounds, while Thompson dropped a double-double on 25 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Leavy has scored at least a third of South Pike's points. Another player making a difference was Donald Lewis, who scored six points along with four steals.
Several Cobras players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Damarion Smith, who scored 11 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Smith grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Johnson, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
South Pike's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Wesson, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.
South Pike and the Tigers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Jefferson County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 737 points over their last ten games. As for Wesson, they will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
