With a playoff game on the line, the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the Rams by a score of 28-21. The victory was familiar territory for Cardinal Gibbons who now have ten in a row.
Cardinal Gibbons was led to victory by Chet Yardley and Gannon Jones. Yardley picked up 200 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Jones threw for 297 yards and a touchdown. Yardley was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 63 yards.
Despite the loss, Rolesville still got an impressive performance from Devon Thomas, who rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Braden Atkinson, who threw for 224 yards and a touchdown.
The last time Cardinal Gibbons lost on the road was back back in September. Having now won four straight away matches, they've pushed their record up to 12-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Rolesville, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-2.
Cardinal Gibbons will head out on the road to face off against Hoggard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hoggard knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 contests -- so hopefully Cardinal Gibbons likes a good challenge. Rolesville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
