Last Tuesday, Crowley County was able to grind out a solid win over Holly, taking the game 48-37. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.
Crowley County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlyn Berg, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamil Lovato, who went 5 of 10 en route to 11 points.
Meanwhile, Peyton played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Simla, falling 55-10. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Cubs are ranked 26th).
Crowley County will need focus on slowing down Scarlett Clark, one of several Peyton players who made an impact when they last played. She posted three points and five steals. Those five steals gave Clark a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sammie Nickell, who earned three points and eight rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Peyton and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Crowley County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Crowley County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Peyton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Crowley County was taken down by Peyton 52-13 when the teams last played back in December of 2021. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Crowley County was down 28-7.
