Eaton extended the longest winning streak in 2A Patriot this week by beating Strasburg, 56-20. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Reds.
Fort Lupton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. The Blue Devils defeated University 34-27 earlier in the week.
Fort Lupton's dynamic duo of Jeff Merritt and Marcos Lenox proved tough for the Bulldogs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Merritt threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns and Lenox had 113 yards receiving. Jalen Vasquez helped Fort Lupton's passing attack out by catching five balls for 90 yards.
Austin Ekeler was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 318 yards on 27 carries as Eaton bested University. Britten Abbott also contributed to the rushing game with 33 yards on the ground.
Kyle Rosenbrock made the biggest impact on defense this week as Brush bested Sterling. The sophomore pulled down two interceptions.
Fort Lupton's Merritt and Vasquez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A Patriot in both passing and receiving yards. Merritt has thrown for 1480 yards this season, while Vasquez, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 39 catches for 689 yards. Ekeler from Bill Mondt's team leads the league in rushing with 1920 yards.
Platte Valley's Logan Sitzman needs only 43 yards against Tom Grasmick's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Sitzman has rushed for 957 yards on 99 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Reds take on the Tigers. Eaton is in first place, while Sterling is in fifth place.
