The Dakota Cougars waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 50-37 victory over Grosse Pointe South. Given Dakota's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Grosse Pointe South is ranked 186th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dakota to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tambre Williams, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Williams is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Samone Andrews, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Dakota is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. As for Grosse Pointe South, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.
Dakota will be playing in front of their home fans against Grosse Pointe North at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Grosse Pointe North is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Grosse Pointe South, they will square off against L'Anse Creuse North at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. L'Anse Creuse North has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 9.
