The Memphis East Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Trezevant Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Memphis East has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with eight straight defeats, while Trezevant will come in with three straight wins.
On Thursday, Memphis East came up short against Melrose and fell 13-9.
Jaiden Woodus made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in both of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of James Kmet, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Trezevant hadn't done well against KIPP Collegiate recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Bears narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the phoenix 7-5.
Zavion Evans was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Rickey Wright, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Trezevant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .652. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Memphis East's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Trezevant, they now have a winning record of 7-6-1.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Memphis East has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .575. However, it's not like Trezevant struggles in that department as they've averaged .662. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Memphis East took their win against Trezevant when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
