The Galena Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Columbus, falling 52-22. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Galena has suffered since December 8, 2023.
Columbus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ellie Helms, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Helms hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Katy Mooney, who scored 11 points along with eight steals.
Galena dropped their record down to 2-9 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for Columbus, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Galena on the road again on Friday and play against Commerce at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. As for Columbus, they will challenge Frontenac at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Frontenac is ranked 203rd, while Columbus is ranked 209th).
