Alhambra took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Saturday. They pulled ahead with a 21-20 photo finish over the South El Monte Eagles. This was payback for the Moors, who suffered a 21-6 loss the last time these two teams met.
Leading Alhambra to victory were Halen Tsang and Bryan Leonard. Tsang rushed for 127 yards and one score while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, while Leonard rushed for 23 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 127 rushing yards gave Tsang a new career-high.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Maldonado, who threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 33 yards. Gabriel Canchola was Maldonado's top target, picking up 169 receiving yards.
Alhambra has already played their next match, a 40-0 defeat against El Monte on the 29th. As for South El Monte, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 49-14 loss against Saddleback on the 28th.
