It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Huntington Beach Oilers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They had just enough and edged Ontario Christian out 36-33. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Tyler Young was his usual excellent self, rushing for 169 yards and four touchdowns. Hunter Gray was another key contributor, picking up 128 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayden Slegers, who threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Zander Lewis, who gained 73 total yards and two touchdowns.
The victory makes it two in a row for Huntington Beach and bumps their season record up to 6-6. As for Ontario Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
Huntington Beach will head out on the road to face off against Simi Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Simi Valley is ranked 129th, while Huntington Beach is ranked 139th). Ontario Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
