After flying high against Castro Valley last Friday, Carlmont came back down to earth. The Carlmont Scots fell 49-41 to the Menlo School Knights on Saturday. The Scots haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Several Scots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daniel Mattioli, who rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Brian Sagon also helped out as he racked up 181 receiving yards.
Jack Freehill was a one-man wrecking crew for Menlo School as he threw for 176 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Freehill got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible 61 yards. Menlo School also got a significant boost from Chuck Wynn, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 153 yards.
Carlmont's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Menlo School, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carlmont will face off against Monte Vista Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran up and down the field in their prior games. As for Menlo School, they will challenge Los Altos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Menlo School is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
