Jenna Volturno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alexa Amodio and Kambria Bragg did most of the damage at the plate: Amodio scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Bragg scored two runs while going 1-for-3. That's the most hits Amodio has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tessa Sanchez-Barrios, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
They weren't the only one making solid contact: Ardrey Kell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, South Mecklenburg posted their closest win since March 17th on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Sun Valley 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sabres.
South Mecklenburg also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Madison Norris gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tia Montgomery, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Ellie Gerin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Ardrey Kell's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for South Mecklenburg, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ardrey Kell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like South Mecklenburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ardrey Kell was able to grind out a solid win over South Mecklenburg when the teams last played back in March, winning 9-4. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sabres turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
