Roxborough has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Martin Luther King Cougars at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Roxborough focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Roxborough scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They claimed a resounding 77-49 win over Tacony Academy Charter at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Roxborough has managed all season.
Sahir Smith was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 20 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Stefan Phillips, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Martin Luther King strolled past the Lions with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 52-38.
Martin Luther King's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makhai Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Robinson scored 15 or more points. Isaiah Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Roxborough pushed their record up to 15-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. Martin Luther King's record now sits at 6-7.
Things could have been worse for Roxborough, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-41 loss to the Cougars when the teams last played back in February of 2021. Can Roxborough avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
