It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Delone Catholic ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past the Fairfield Knights 11-10. The victory continues a trend for the Squires in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won seven in a row.
Grace Hewitt was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double.
In other batting news, Ivy Nieves was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Jill Sherdel was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Delone Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairfield struck out ten times.
