The Moffat Cowboys had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They enjoyed a cozy 52-36 win over South Park on Friday. For Moffat, this counts as revenge for the 44-38 defeat South Park walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Moffat got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Riley Heater out in front who scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Martinez, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals.
Despite the defeat, South Park saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Miller scored 8 points along with 3 steals. Henrik Newton was another key contributor, scoring 3 points.
Moffat's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for South Park, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Moffat will head out on the road to face off against Cotopaxi at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Cotopaxi focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday. South Park won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cripple Creek-Victor at 4:30 p.m. on December 2nd.
