It was a good run, but the Fossil Ridge SaberCats unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 46-33 to Broomfield. Fossil Ridge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Broomfield apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Fossil Ridge saw an underclassman step up: Lauren Smith scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gianna Leone, who scored five points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Sydney Deem continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Broomfield, scoring five points along with ten rebounds and nine blocks. Deem hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Gilpatrick, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Fossil Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Broomfield, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fossil Ridge will square off against Monarch at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Monarch is ranked 69th, while Fossil Ridge is ranked 73rd). As for Broomfield, they will head out on the road to take on Legacy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
