3A District 6 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Victory Christian moved up to 52 from 93 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A District 6. The Conquerors were able to make the jump by beating Henryetta 24-7.
Victory Christian extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Knights, 24-7. The win marks fourth in a row for the Brent Marley's team.
Kellyville's dynamic duo of Presley Smith and Jon Waggoner proved tough for Beggs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns and Waggoner had 126 yards receiving. Speers Johnathan helped Kellyville's passing attack out by catching one ball for 13 yards.
Jalen Wood was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 152 yards as the Conquerors fell to the Demons. Teammate Cole Taylor added to the ground attack by rushing for 25 yards.
Victory Christian's Keats Calhoon and Taylor have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A District 6 in both passing and receiving yards. Calhoon has thrown for 824 yards this season, while Taylor has 13 catches for 301 yards. Morris's Guthrie Dean leads the league in rushing yards with 406.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Conquerors take on Kellyville. Victory Christian's offense has recorded 114 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Kelly Anderson 's team has permitted only 187 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Ponies take on the Conquerors. As it stands, Kellyville is in seventh, while Victory Christian is in first.
Beggs was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, Bob Criag's team triumphed over the Ponies 47-22.
