The Calhoun Academy Cavaliers were the 56-52 winner over the Orangeburg Prep Indians when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Calhoun Academy took a 51-33 bruising from Orangeburg Prep on Thursday. Calhoun Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Calhoun Academy had strong showings from Colt Layton, who scored 11 points along with two steals, and Chase Strickland, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds. Layton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played.
Orangeburg Prep's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Hall, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tilden Riley, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Calhoun Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Orangeburg Prep, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun Academy will take on Clarendon Hall at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Orangeburg Prep, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Palmetto Christian Academy at 8:00 p.m. on January 26th. Palmetto Christian Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
