Baseball Recap: Hozho Academy Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Hozho Academy entered their tilt with Tohatchi on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Cougars 15-1. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by nine runs or more this season.

Wyatt Piano made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Hozho Academy let Trey Tafoya and Brody Brown run wild. Tafoya scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Brown scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Brown is becoming a predictor of Hozho Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Philip Elkins was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Hozho Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Hozho Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Tohatchi, with the loss, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-3.

Coincidentally, Hozho Academy and Tohatchi will both be playing Zuni the next time they take the field. The Cougars will head out to face the Thunderbirds at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Wolves will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
