The Leigh Longhorns will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the North Salinas Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on November 10th. Leigh will be strutting in after a win while North Salinas will be coming in after a defeat.
After only six points in their last matchup, Leigh made sure to put some points up on the board against Westmont on Friday. Leigh came out on top against Westmont by a score of 34-27. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Leigh was the better team in the second half.
Zach Pistor was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Charlie Lyon was another key contributor, throwing for 225 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, North Salinas' good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They received a tough blow as they fell 28-14 to Alisal. North Salinas has struggled against Alisal recently, as their contest two weeks ago was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Justin Pascone, who rushed for 130 yards on only 12 carries. Pascone hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Ceralde, who threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
Leigh is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for North Salinas, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 7-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Leigh has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 150.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like North Salinas struggles in that department as they've been even better at 236 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
