The Cowan Blackhawks fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Wapahani Raiders on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 81-72 to the Raiders. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (56), Cowan still had to take the loss.
Loss or not, Cowan got some senior leadership from Cole Duncan and Mason Kidd. Duncan dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Kidd. scored 24 points. It was the first time this season that Duncan scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Timmy Watson, who scored 15 points.
Isaac Andrews was his usual excellent self, scoring 45 points along with eight rebounds and five steals for Wapahani. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Andrews has scored at least a third of Wapahani's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Cook, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.
Cowan are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Wapahani, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.
Cowan will head out on the road to take on the Royals at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Eastern Hancock focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Saturday. As for Wapahani, they will be playing at home against the Rockets at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Union is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
