Red Mesa is 0-3 against Williams since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Red Mesa Redskins will be playing at home against the Williams Vikings at 5:30 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Tuesday, Red Mesa came up short against Whitehorse and fell 51-39.
Red Mesa's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Shyla Pipkin, who scored 7 points along with 12 rebounds, and Daleni Nakai who scored 12 points along with 9 rebounds. Nakai scored a full 30.8% of Red Mesa's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Williams' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 59-43 bruising from Rock Point. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Williams in their matchups with Rock Point: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite their loss, Williams saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kai Mortensen , who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals, was perhaps the best of all. The matchup was Mortensen 's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Kyliegh Amos was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 8 rebounds.
Red Mesa's win bumped their season record to 3-2 while Whitehorse's defeat dropped theirs to 3-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Red Mesa have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Williams struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.8 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
