Sulligent has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Winston County Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Sulligent is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Winston County in Alabama (Sulligent is ranked 92nd, while Winston County is ranked 355th).
Sulligent stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lamar County 66-30 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Sulligent has posted since December 1, 2023.
Meanwhile, Winston County was able to grind out a solid victory over Addison last Friday, taking the game 46-38. The win made it back-to-back wins for Winston County.
Winston County found their leader in underclassman Lynleigh Cobb, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. Cobb is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Marli Stewart, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Sulligent's win was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.1 points per game. As for Winston County, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-13 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Sulligent against Winston County when the teams last played on January 4th as the squad secured a 67-28 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sulligent since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
