There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. We'll tackle all that (plus a new number one team) in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Cheyenne got a 57 - 13 win over Valley last week, and a key reason for the win was sophomore Majae Madison. Madison rushed for 202 yards and four touchdowns. That performance landed Madison among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The showdown between Liberty (1st in the power rankings) and Desert Pines (4th) shaped up to be more of a takedown. Liberty took its contest against Desert Pines by a conclusive 33 - 6 score. Liberty gave the Desert Pines offensive line some real trouble with eight sacks (and will no doubt be looking to keep the pressure on Chaparral this Friday).
Movin on Up
It was onward and upward for Palo Verde this week as the team hoisted itself up four places in the power rankings -- the largest rise of the week -- after their most recent game. It claimed a 14 - 6 victory over Shadow Ridge. One of the main ringleaders for Palo Verde was junior Jaylin Henderson, who earned one touchdown and 75 yards rushing the ball.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Bishop Manogue (8th in the power rankings) and Damonte Ranch (3rd). Both teams are rolling into the game after last-week wins. Only one team will win this week, so we'll see which team fails to repeat its success.
