The Giles Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Bland County Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Giles is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Giles got their first taste of in-conference action on Tuesday and they started things off strong. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Galax. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Addie Lowry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Kylee Snider was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addison Hylton, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Giles kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Galax only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bland County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-13 win over Narrows on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bears considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Giles' record now sits at 4-2. As for Bland County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Giles took their win against Bland County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 19-1 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
