Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Meridian). They blew past Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton 66-29 on Thursday. The Bobcats pushed the score to 51-29 by the end of the third, a deficit Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton had little chance of recovering from.

When it comes to explaining why Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton lost, don't look at Brylee Martin. Despite the final result, she went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points. Martin continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Stayton, who posted six points and eight rebounds.

Meridian's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-7.

Meridian and Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Meridian (ranked 624th) will meet Sesser-Valier/Waltonville (ranked 211th) at 6:00 p.m. on December 30th. Similarly, Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton (ranked 619th) will meet DuQuoin (ranked 285th) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
