Bishop Manogue hasn't had much luck against Douglas recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Miners will challenge the Tigers at 2:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop Manogue 2.8, Douglas 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Bishop Manogue is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over Damonte Ranch. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Miners considering their one-run performance the match before.
Kaylee Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kiki Harris, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Averie Stephan, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
Bishop Manogue always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Damonte Ranch only posted an OBP of .324.
Meanwhile, Douglas faced McQueen in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Tigers blew past the Lancers 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Camryn McLelland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. McLelland was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Annie Hill was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Haylie Pledger, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Bishop Manogue is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-10-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Douglas, their record now sits at 23-9.
Bishop Manogue might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Douglas in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Miners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
