The Murrieta Valley Nighthawks will head out on the road to challenge the Temecula Valley Golden Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Murrieta Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matchups -- so hopefully Temecula Valley likes a good challenge.
Even though Chaparral scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, Murrieta Valley still came out on top. Murrieta Valley took their matchup against Chaparral 67-57. Given Murrieta Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Chaparral is ranked 656th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Parker Steffen, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. Brady Jones was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Temecula Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. The match between Temecula Valley and Rancho Verde wasn't particularly close, with Temecula Valley falling 63-46.
Murrieta Valley pushed their record up to 14-7 with that win, which was their 11th straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for Temecula Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.
Murrieta Valley beat Temecula Valley 60-50 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Murrieta Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
