The Mission Viejo Diablos will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Oaks Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Mission Viejo rose to the challenge on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 59-35 margin over Palos Verdes. The victory was familiar territory for Mission Viejo who now have three in a row.
Mission Viejo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Vance Spafford, who picked up 173 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Spafford's longest reception was for an incredible 74 yards. Hinesward. Lilomaiava. was another key contributor, rushing for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
Mission Viejo's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB 5.5 times. In that department, Jonavan Asuncion was the leader with two sacks.
Meanwhile, Oaks Christian waltzed into Friday's match with six straight wins but they left with seven. They really took it to Chaparral for the full four quarters, racking up a 41-7 win at home. Oaks Christian pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Chaparral had little chance of recovering from.
Oaks Christian had a senior duo take command as Chase Farrell picked up 167 receiving yards and three touchdowns and Nate Bennett threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Parks, who rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Mission Viejo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Oaks Christian, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record.
