Rochester was handed a three-set loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Whitko Wildcats 3-2. This was payback for the Zebras, who suffered a 3-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Rochester who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 15-25, 25-11, 24-26, 15-13.
Rilyn Strasser was nothing short of spectacular: she had 11 digs and five aces. That's the most digs she has posted since back in September.
They weren't the only good servers: Rochester was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. They are 2-1 when they serve at least ten aces.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Meredith Hindbaugh, who had 13 kills, 11 digs, three aces, and one block. Hindbaugh has been hot, having posted two or more aces the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Audrey Watmough, who had 13 digs, five kills, three aces, and one block.
Rochester's win ended a three-match drought at home and bumped them up to 10-15. As for Whitko, they dropped their record down to 13-14 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Rochester didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 defeat against Twin Lakes on the 11th. As for Whitko, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against South Bend Riley on the 11th.
