The Arvada West Wildcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They snuck past Fort Collins with a 78-72 victory. Winning may never get old, but Arvada West sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Arvada West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Stremel led the charge by scoring ten points along with six assists and three steals. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for him. James Hadzic was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Fort Collins still got an impressive performance from Jayce King, who scored 33 points. King scored a full 45.8% of Fort Collins' points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Marcus Burkett, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Arvada West is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Fort Collins, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Arvada West will challenge Brighton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brighton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Arvada West likes a good challenge. Fort Collins will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Erie at 6:30 p.m. on January 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Erie is ranked 148th, while Fort Collins is ranked 133rd).
