Granite Bay and Del Oro are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Grizzlies will host the Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Granite Bay has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Del Oro will arrive with 13 straight wins.
Granite Bay came up short against Whitney on Friday, falling 7-1.
Paetynn Snobar was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Granite Bay saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sami McKown, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Madison Lopez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Del Oro gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Folsom as they made off with a 15-5 victory. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.
Mikayla Finn looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kate Brown 2026, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Del Oro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Del Oro's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-1. As for Granite Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Granite Bay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Del Oro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Granite Bay suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Del Oro when the teams last played back in April. Will the Grizzlies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
